From Follansbee -
Terne metal is prime, copper-bearing carbon steel coated both sides with a terne alloy. It's a time-tested roofing material which has established remarkable records of service. Terne also has played an important role in development of American architecture since the early 18th century when it was first imported from Wales. It was chosen as the roofing material for many famous buildings, such as Monticello, the Smithsonian Institute, the Hermitage, and the homes of many presidents.
Terne has also been selected for many buildings, both residential and non-residential, by many renown architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, who remarked that, "because of its inherent adaptability to both form and color, Follansbee Terne permits the roof area to become a significant part of structural design."
Terne allows the architect and/or owner to select from a complete spectrum of color, thus creating the truly traditional look of a metal roof. It is ideal for restoration projects, and has often been used to replace original Terne roof which, in many cases, has served more than one hundred years!
After 200 years of continuous use, Terne has proven itself to be a most reliable product for use in varying atmospheres. Properly painted and maintained, no other painted architectural metal can match its performance.
Terne is an economical roofing material. Not only is it moderate in initial cost, but because of its light weight, Terne can eliminate the need for special, load-bearing structures. |
